Industrial IoT & Predictive Maintenance — Machine-Health Sensors, Condition Monitoring and APM Across Plants, Utilities and Mines
Entry signal — what decides who wins here
Structure decidesThe binding constraint is not executional. Being better than the incumbent does not, by itself, get you in — this one is cleared with capital, an asset, or a permission.
Come with the asset, or buy the business that owns it. Plant, fleet, land or quota decide this market before any operating skill does. Operators here are bought, not started.
Measured, not forecast: the share of US establishments opening in one year that were still active later. It counts good operators and bad ones together, which is exactly why it is the honest answer to “what are the odds”. It is for the whole sector rather than this market, and the ten-year figure comes from an older cohort because no younger one has reached ten years.
This is not a probability of success, and it is not a verdict on you. No survival probability is published per market, and inventing one would be worse than saying so. What the bar reads is how much of the outcome sits inside an operator's control: green means the hurdles are ones a better operator clears, red means the binding constraint is capital, an asset or a permission rather than execution. Someone arriving with an advantage this screen did not assume can win a market shown in red.

The binding constraint — capital intensity
The process-plant layer is owned by the automation vendors, and the factory-floor layer is a sensor-and-analyst business that venture money is already paying for in nine figures. Emerson paid $265.00 a share in cash for the AspenTech shares it did not already own and completed the merger on 2025-03-12; AspenTech, whose software includes the Aspen Mtell predictive-maintenance product, now reports inside Emerson's Control Systems & Software segment [A, Emerson release]. AspenTech's last 10-K showed $1,127.5M of FY2024 revenue across all its suites, APM among them [A]. That segment grew 7% to $4,205M in FY2025 [A, Emerson 10-K]. GE Vernova sells Meridium and SmartSignal as its APM line [C], Siemens bought Southampton's Senseye in June 2022 [B, Siemens release], AVEVA sits inside Schneider Electric, and Honeywell sells Forge on top of its own control systems [C]. The buyer at a refinery, a utility or a mine buys reliability analytics from whoever installed the control system. Below them, the sensor-plus-AI vendors for discrete plants are already well funded. Augury raised a $75M Series F led by Lightrock at a valuation above $1B in February 2025 [B, company release]. Tractian raised a $120M Series C led by Sapphire Ventures in December 2024 [B, counsel releases]. AssetWatch raised a $75M Series C led by Viking Global in April 2025 [B, company release]. Edmonton's Nanoprecise closed US$36M of equity and debt in March 2025, taking its total to US$53M [B, BetaKit]. KCF Technologies took Graham Partners growth equity in 2022 [B]. Each sells wireless vibration, temperature and ultrasound sensors, plus software, plus certified vibration analysts who check the alerts. That makes it a hardware-and-services business with SaaS margins only at scale. The software-only exits are not encouraging. Senseye had raised about $20M before Siemens bought it for an undisclosed price [B, Verdantix]. IFS announced a deal to buy Falkonry in 2023, and Falkonry's own site now says the merger was never completed [C]. Uptake went to Bosch in March 2026 for undisclosed terms, and by then it was a fleet-maintenance company [A, Bosch release]. How this differs from its neighbours. CMMS (8113) is the work-order system: it records that a bearing was changed. EAM (541514) is the asset register and lifecycle plan. Both already list APM and Augury at the edges. This record is the condition-monitoring layer underneath: the sensors and models that say a bearing will fail, and then raise the work order in the CMMS. MES and plant automation (333) runs production rather than the health of the machines. The 333 anchor is navigation only. The buyers are manufacturers, utilities and power generators, oil and gas, chemicals, mining, metals, pulp and paper, and food and beverage plants. Capital intensity decides it. An entrant needs a sensor fleet, a team of certified analysts and an installed base to train its models on, and four rivals have each already raised $36M to $120M in a single recent round.

The incumbent
Who owns this market and who is coming for it. Fields a screen never reached say so rather than guessing.
Financials & market size — sourced
Figures that came from a filing, a results release or reputable reporting, each carrying its evidence tier.
Market size, derived
Built from the competitor set upward rather than quoted from a forecast. Published TAMs in these categories are frequently reverse-engineered from each other, so any published figure is checked against the vendor arithmetic rather than trusted on its own.
Disclosed revenue from 2 of 12 named vendors. The market is at least this large.
No vendor has both a disclosed revenue and a published share.
Only a revenue floor is known — the true market is larger by whatever the undisclosed vendors earn.

Open source · none — there is no price floor
No open-source predictive-maintenance product with adoption was checked. The constraint on price is bundling by the automation vendors, not open source.
There is no free floor here. The floor is the control system the plant already owns. Process plants get APM bundled from Emerson, GE Vernova, AVEVA, Siemens or Honeywell. Discrete plants buy sensors plus analysts from venture-backed independents, none of which publishes a price.
Evidence
Evidence. Opened 2026-10-18. Tier A: Emerson's release of 2025-03-12 ($265.00 tender, merger completed, consolidation into Control Systems & Software). AspenTech's FY2024 10-K on EDGAR ($1,127.482M total revenue, APM suite description) and its Form 25-NSE and 15-12G filings. Emerson's FY2025 10-K (Control Systems & Software $4,205M vs $3,935M). Samsara's FY2026 10-K ($1,618.635M, +30%; 12,000+ Core Customers). Bosch's press release of 2026-03-19 (planned Uptake acquisition, terms undisclosed). Tier B, opened: Augury's Series F release (2025-02-19). Foley & Lardner and WilmerHale client notices of 2024-12-19 (Tractian $120M, Sapphire lead). AssetWatch's Series C release (2025-04-30). Sixth Street's Seeq release (2024-08-06). BetaKit on Nanoprecise (2025-03-27). KCF's release (2022-07-20). Siemens UK's Senseye release (2022-06-08) and Verdantix's note (about $20M raised, founded 2014). Avathon's rebrand release (2024-11-11). Tier C: vendor product pages and customer claims (AspenTech Mtell, GE Vernova APM, Honeywell Forge, AVEVA, KCF, Tractian, Petasense, Cognite), and Falkonry's own statement that the IFS merger was not completed (no IFS confirmation opened; ifs.com returned 429). NOT sourced: no market size was opened, and no vendor breaks out predictive-maintenance revenue, so market size and segment revenue are UNVERIFIED. Prices are UNVERIFIED because no vendor publishes them. Total funding for Augury, Tractian, AssetWatch, Avathon and Cognite was not opened, only the latest rounds. The reported AssetWatch–Petasense deal and the reported Aramco stake in Cognite were seen only in search summaries and are not asserted. uptake.com refuses automated access in robots.txt, and nanoprecise.io serves a bot challenge, so neither homepage was confirmed. The 333 anchor is navigational; buyers span manufacturing, utilities, oil and gas, chemicals, mining, metals, pulp and paper, and food plants.
