Louisiana has no title register. Title passes by an act recorded in the parish conveyance records, which in Lafayette Parish are kept by the Clerk of Court as ex-officio recorder. The Clerk's index and images back to 1935 can be searched online only with a paid subscription ($20 a day, $50 a month or $600 a year). The Lafayette Parish Assessor shows each parcel's owner free through its map search (a Schneider Beacon site), and the Lafayette Economic Development Authority republishes the Assessor's parcels with owner names as a public ArcGIS layer: 120,882 parcels, June 2026, with owner, site address, use code and acreage but no sale prices. No licence is stated on the layer, so facts are quoted one parcel at a time and rows are not republished.
The marquee buildings
The towers that set the tone of the core, and who holds them. A price is the price a document states, on the date it states — not an estimate of what the building is worth now.

The core land
The most valuable ground in the city, and what the public record says about it.
Louisiana assesses land and homes at 10% of fair market value and other property at 15% (s8), so an assessed figure is roughly a tenth to a seventh of market value. The most valuable parcels in Lafayette are its two big hospital campuses. The most valuable private office parcel is the headquarters of LHC Group, the home-health company, which is the only real-estate holder in the city's top-10 taxpayer list. That list is otherwise led by a jewellery manufacturer, banks, oil-service companies and utilities, and it counts their movable property as well as land and buildings.
Who owns the town
At this scale the significant owner is rarely a trust or a fund: it is one or two local holding companies, a family in its second or third generation, and often the land around the town rather than the buildings in it.
Government holds the most ground in Lafayette. The City of Lafayette is the largest landholder inside the city, with 1,288 parcels and 1,922 acres. The Consolidated Government (LCG) holds a further 645 parcels in the city, and the Parish holds the 921-acre airport. The School Board has 85 parcels and 2,758 acres parish-wide, and the state highway department (DOTD) holds 1,479 strips and parcels. The university is titled under five historical names. Two railroads cross the city, and Catholic parishes and institutions together hold 96 parcels. Beyond the city, the parish's 41,292 acres of agricultural-use land are mostly held by individuals, whom we do not name; the largest holders that are entities are a few planting companies and holding LLCs. Figures are parcels, calculated acres and assessed value in the owner's name on the Assessor roll (s1); 'city' means the roll's site city LAFAYETTE.

Who builds the houses
New-home building in this market: the volume, and the firms behind it. Ownership of a builder matters as much as its volume — a private-equity platform and a family firm behave differently.
Lafayette Parish permitted 1,612 single-family homes in 2025 ($419.3M of construction) and no buildings of two or more units, according to the Census Building Permits Survey (s18). Of those, 864 were in jurisdictions that reported all year. The City of Lafayette has no row of its own in the 2025 place file. The parish's unincorporated row (748 homes) shows zero months reported, which marks its figure as imputed (s19). Builders hold lots and unsold homes in their own names on the roll: a Louisiana private builder, D.R. Horton, and local family firms. Figures are parcels in the builder's name, parish-wide and inside the city, which are inventory, not closings.

Commercial landlords
The commercial side, counted separately from housing: who holds the office, retail and industrial floor area.
Lafayette's large private holders are apartment owners, big-box retailers and a few local holding companies. Office towers are not among them. The national single-family rental REITs barely appear: no Progress Residential, Invitation Homes, Tricon or FirstKey entity is on the roll, and a search for AMH-style names found only an unrelated 'AMH LLC'. Rental houses are held instead by local LLCs and the CF KL Assets series. Figures are parcels and assessed value in the owner's name inside the city on the Assessor roll (June 2026), with parish-wide totals where they add something.

Claims this page would have made if a source could be opened. They are left out rather than guessed.
- The members or parents of Acadiana Mall LLC, Higbee Lancoms LP, Chase Tower LLC, Shadows Limited Partnership, Stirling Lafayette LLC and the CF KL Assets series: no filing we opened names them. Wikipedia says Namdar Realty Group owns Acadiana Mall.
- Sale prices and dates for any marquee parcel: the LEDA layer carries no sales, the Assessor's Beacon site (which may show them) is closed to us by robots.txt, and deed images sit behind the Clerk's paid subscription. transactionGranularity is set from the recording system (acts of sale recorded per property), not from a sale we read.
- The Assessor's own 2025 Top 10 taxpayer list, Grand Recapitulations and 2025 Annual Report: content.lafayetteassessor.com disallows all crawlers. The ACFR's 2024-roll tables, sourced to the Assessor, are used instead.
- The corporate relationship between Lafayette Memorial Sanitarium / Lafayette General Hospital and Ochsner Health: stated only as 'Lafayette General Health Joins Ochsner Health' (cited by Wikipedia).
- Whether the federal building at 800 Lafayette St is the federal courthouse: no source we opened names it.
- The meaning of the layer's Account_As field is undocumented. Its match to the ACFR for LHC Real Estate II LLC, and its parish total ($2.96B of real property against $3.62B on the ACFR, which also includes movables), support reading it as assessed value.
