Abilene, Texas

Abilene's owner of every parcel is published free by the Central Appraisal District of Taylor County in its certified 2026 roll - but no public record says what any building sold for.

9 buildings · 9 with an owner established · 17 sources · 3 tier B · 6 tier A · prepared 2026-10-15

Can you find out who owns it?

Texas keeps no public title register; ownership is read from the appraisal district. Most of Abilene lies in Taylor County, whose Central Appraisal District posts its whole certified 2026 roll - owner of record, mailing address, legal description, deed date, state code and value for every account - as free downloads, with a disclaimer that the data was developed for internal use and is not for resale. The north side lies in Jones County, appraised separately. Deeds are recorded by the Taylor County Clerk at $1 a page for a copy and $5 to certify. No record holds a price: Texas has no mandatory sales disclosure, and sales an appraisal district learns of privately are confidential under Government Code Sec. 552.149.

The core land

The most valuable ground in the city, and what the public record says about it.

Computed from the Central Appraisal District of Taylor County's certified adjusted 2026 roll (17 Aug 2026), restricted to accounts whose taxing units include the City of Abilene (CAB). Values are market values for tax year 2026, not prices. The Jones County part of the city (693 owned parcels, $117.6M on the State's 2026 file) is small and excluded from these totals.

Who owns the town

At this scale the significant owner is rarely a trust or a fund: it is one or two local holding companies, a family in its second or third generation, and often the land around the town rather than the buildings in it.

Abilene's ground is held mostly by public bodies, the three church universities and one new arrival. The City of Abilene is the largest holder by area - about 5,440 acres inside the city on the Taylor roll plus about 1,115 acres in the Jones County part around Lake Fort Phantom Hill - followed by the US Air Force at Dyess and the Lancium entities that assembled the Stargate data-centre campus in 2024-25. The Development Corporation of Abilene, the City's economic-development corporation, holds about 1,250 acres of industrial land. Acres are the roll's land-segment acres for accounts carrying the City of Abilene taxing unit (Taylor) or lying inside the Census place boundary (Jones). Accounts in individuals' names are not listed.

Who builds the houses

New-home building in this market: the volume, and the firms behind it. Ownership of a builder matters as much as its volume — a private-equity platform and a family firm behave differently.

Abilene builds about a thousand homes a year, overwhelmingly single-family houses by local builders. The Census Bureau counted 696 single-family units ($204.6M) and 162 two-unit buildings (324 units) permitted in 2025, and no buildings of three or more units. The only national builder on the roll is D.R. Horton; the rest are Abilene firms. Figures count accounts held in each builder's name inside the city on the 2026 roll (lots and unsold homes), not homes built; no league table of Abilene starts by builder was found.

Commercial landlords

The commercial side, counted separately from housing: who holds the office, retail and industrial floor area.

Abilene's largest private holdings are not offices. The Stargate campus put the city's tax base into a few hands within two years: on the 2026 roll the Lancium land and buildings ($1.33B), Crusoe's eight Abilene DC LLCs ($2.67B of mechanical and electrical plant) and Oracle's computers ($3.43B) together exceed $7.4B against $16.4B of all real property in the city. Below them sit utilities, a cheese plant, apartment owners and net-lease retail. Figures are market values on the 17 Aug 2026 roll for accounts carrying the City taxing unit; the ACFR's taxpayer table uses 2025 taxable values.

Looked for and not found

Claims this page would have made if a source could be opened. They are left out rather than guessed.

  • Who stands behind Lancium Abilene LLC, Partners Mall Abilene LLC, the Abilene DC LLCs, the MIMG CCLVIII apartment entities and Abilene Tower LLC. No filing opened names their members, so no person is named.
  • Whether the Stargate land is leased to the Crusoe/Blue Owl/Primary Digital venture or to Oracle, and on what terms. The roll names Lancium Abilene LLC as owner of the land and buildings; Wikipedia says the campus is leased to Oracle; no lease was read.
  • Which accounts make up Crusoe's March 2026 900 MW Microsoft campus. Lancium Abilene Real Estate LLC and Lancium Abilene II LLC took title to several tracts between Aug and Nov 2025, but no source ties those tracts to that campus.
  • A price for Hendrick's purchase of Abilene Regional Medical Center. CHS reported about $265M for three hospitals together; no per-hospital price was found.
  • Mall of Abilene's financial position. Wikipedia names JLL as owner and manager; the roll names Partners Mall Abilene LLC (Radiant), and no receivership or loan filing was found.
  • Kirby Lake and Lake Fort Phantom Hill. The City holds about 1,115 acres in the Jones County part of the city, but no account opened was labelled with either lake, and Jones CAD's own site was not read.
  • The Abilene Convention Center building's own account. The City's annual report confirms it is a City facility; the roll's legal descriptions do not name it, so only the City-owned hotel lot next to it is cited.
  • Abilene Housing Authority holdings (12 accounts under four spellings, about $41.9M) - not separately researched.
