Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor from siouxfalls.gov/government/mayor/biography-ce and the 8 council members (5 districts + 3 at-large) from siouxfalls.gov/government/council/council-members, retrieved 2026-10-22. robots.txt read first: the individual council-member pages (/government/council/about-the-council/council-districts/<name>) are Disallowed, so they were NOT fetched; the list page and /files photo paths are allowed. The council page labels seats by district (Northeast, Central, Southeast, Northwest, Southwest) and 'At-Large'; the 2026 runoff results use 'Ward 2', 'Ward 5' and 'At Large A' for the same seats. The charter creates no other city-wide elected office.
  • City election 2026: nonpartisan; nominating petitions closed 2026-03-24 (City Clerk 'Candidates and Political Committees' page); runoff 2026-06-23 (mayor; council Ward 2, Ward 5, At Large A) — Erickson beat Jamie Smith by 2 votes, 18,280 to 18,278, and a recount board was named 2026-07-06. Council terms are four years and staggered, so the seats not filled in 2026 (Northeast, Northwest, Southwest, two at-large) come up next, presumably spring 2028; that date was not stated on the pages read.
  • Federal: Senators and Rep. Dusty Johnson from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json; Johnson confirmed on house.gov/representatives (South Dakota, At Large). senate.gov returned Akamai 403 'Access Denied' even on robots.txt — not retried. Federal photos left null.
  • State: Census geocoder (coordinates lookup, not address; approx. city-hall point 43.5469, -96.7298, inside 'Sioux Falls city', Minnehaha County) puts city hall in 2026 State Senate District 15 and State House District 15. A 49-point grid (30 points inside the Sioux Falls place) found 11 legislative districts: 9, 15, 12, 13, 2, 25, 10, 11, 14 in Minnehaha County and 12, 13 in Lincoln County — a sample, so more may exist (e.g. 6, 16). Only District 15's members are recorded. Sioux Falls spans Minnehaha and Lincoln counties.
  • Legislators read from the SD Legislature site's own data feed /api/SessionMembers/Session/71 (2026 session; robots.txt disallows only /pdfviewer and a few logo files). That feed also carries home addresses and phones: they were stripped on receipt and the raw file deleted; only name, district, chamber, party, position, official sdlegislature.gov email and photo URL are kept.
  • Candidates: SD Secretary of State '2026 General Election Candidate List' (vip.sdsos.gov/candidatelist.aspx?eid=774; 745 rows over 15 pages; pages 1-3 read via the page's own pager, covering U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Governor, statewide offices, all State Senate districts and State House to District 27). The page notes 'If a candidate is not listed, the Secretary of State's office is waiting for the appropriate filing documentation.' The list prints each candidate's mailing address — not copied. Withdrawn filers (e.g. Julian Beaudion, U.S. Senate DEM, withdrawn 08/04/2026) are omitted. No write-ins captured. D15 House: 4 candidates for 2 seats; no contest captured is unopposed.
  • Minnehaha County (minnehahacounty.gov) answered 403 Forbidden to robots.txt, so it was treated as not allowed and no county sample ballot was read. Lincoln County's elections page was not needed and not fetched.
  • Terms: siouxfalls.gov Copyright Notice forbids copying/publishing site materials without written permission — only facts and links are kept, photos linked never copied. sd.gov/disclaim.aspx (linked from sdsos.gov) redirects to a Microsoft sign-in, so the state's terms could not be read; no terms were accepted. sdlegislature.gov Disclaimer states accuracy only. standsFor left null for all (no person's own statement read).
