Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: five-member City Council from the City Council page https://santaclarita.gov/city-council/ and each member page (retrieved 2026-10-22). The council 'designates one of its members to serve as Mayor at the first meeting in December each year'; there is no directly elected mayor and no other city-wide elected office. Ayala (District 1) and Gibbs (District 3) hold district seats (district elections began 2024-11-05, per the City Clerk Elections page); Weste, McLean and Miranda hold the remaining pre-district at-large seats, which expire in December 2026. Official @santaclarita.gov emails as printed; no phones.
  • City 2026 election: City Clerk Notice of Election (dated 2026-07-07) — one Councilmember each for District 2, District 4 and District 5, full four-year term. Notice of Candidate Filing Status (2026-08-03): nomination closed 2026-08-07; 'due to redistricting, there is no eligible incumbent for an open office'. Candidates from the City Clerk's List of Qualified Candidates memo (2026-08-13), which presents them 'in no particular order' and prints no ballot designations: D2 3 candidates, D4 5 (including Mayor Laurene Weste), D5 3. The memo states addresses/phones/emails are confidential (Elections Code 2194). 'Notice of Nominees' still shows TBD on https://santaclarita.gov/city-clerk/elections/notices/. McLean and Miranda are not on the list.
  • Next municipal election after 2026-11-03: November 2028 (consolidated with the statewide general) for Districts 1 and 3 — the City Clerk says regular elections are 'consolidated with statewide elections in November of even-numbered years'. Exact 2028 date not yet published.
  • Los Angeles County Registrar candidate list (lavote.gov Candidate List, GENERAL ELECTION - 11/3/2026, id=4348, retrieved 2026-10-22) was read: it carries Santa Clarita-area school, community college and water district contests but not the City of Santa Clarita council contests. School/water offices skipped per the brief. That list prints candidates' addresses, phones and personal emails — none copied.
  • Districts covering the city: Census Geocoder coordinates endpoint on a 20x20 grid over 34.33-34.50 N, 118.40-118.66 W (169 points inside 'Santa Clarita city'; one timeout), plus a 12x12 pass (57 points). 2026 map (vintage Current_Current, 120th Congress): CA-27 144 points, CA-30 25 points (east/southeast, around 118.41-118.50 W); 119th map (ACS2025_Current): CA-27 all 169. SD-23 and AD-40 cover every point on both vintages. City Hall (34.41302,-118.55308): CA-27, SD-23, AD-40. Point sample, not polygon area; slivers narrower than ~1.2 km could be missed.
  • Sitting U.S. Representatives from https://www.house.gov/representatives (California table, retrieved 2026-10-22), bioguide ids from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json; photos at clerk.house.gov (HEAD-checked, 200). Senators Padilla and Schiff from the @unitedstates dataset (senate.gov not fetched; returned 403 to an earlier agent in this series).
  • Candidates (federal and state): California Secretary of State 'Certified List of Candidates for the November 3, 2026, General Election', dated 2026-08-27 (link from https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/upcoming-elections/general-election-november-3-2026), retrieved 2026-10-22. Party preference and ballot designation as printed; '*' marks incumbents in legislative contests. Incumbents running: Whitesides (CA-27), Schiavo (AD-40), and at city level Weste (D4). Governor is open (Becerra vs Hilton). No U.S. Senate contest on the list. The SOS contact list was not used.
  • State: Governor Gavin Newsom from the Governor's Proclamation (SOS PDF). State Senator Suzette Martinez Valladares (SD-23) from senate.ca.gov/senators; Assemblymember Pilar Schiavo (AD-40) from assembly.ca.gov/assemblymembers. Only one senate and one assembly district cover the city.
  • LICENCE: santaclarita.gov Website Terms and Conditions — 'All City of Santa Clarita website content is copyright City of Santa Clarita, California. All rights reserved. Permission is granted to download information from this website, so long as such information is not used for commercial purposes.' Only facts are recorded; council photos are linked, not copied. • Robots/terms: santaclarita.gov robots.txt is 'User-agent: * Disallow:' (allow all); sos.ca.gov robots.txt is empty; elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov robots.txt returns an S3 AccessDenied (no file published); lavote.gov, geocoding.geo.census.gov, clerk.house.gov and unitedstates.github.io serve no robots.txt (404); house.gov, senate.ca.gov and assembly.ca.gov robots allow the pages used. One plain User-Agent throughout; no blocks hit, no terms accepted, no logins, nothing requested. No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded; standsFor null for everyone (member-page biographies are the City's text, not the person's own campaign statement). Write-ins and primary losers excluded.
