Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Mayor and seven district council members from the Salt Lake City Council 'Contact Us' page and each district page (slc.gov/district1-7), retrieved 2026-10-22; Alejandro Puy is listed as Chair, Erika Carlsen Vice Chair, Dan Dugan C.R.A. Chair. Members' official emails are Cloudflare-obfuscated on the page and were not decoded. SLC has no other city-wide elected office. The City Recorder's Elections page: 'The next Salt Lake City Municipal Election will take place in 2027.' slc.gov robots.txt disallows /wp-admin/ only, crawl-delay 10 (honoured).
  • Candidates: the Utah Lieutenant Governor's '2026 Candidate Filings' page (vote.utah.gov, 'Last updated: 10/05/2026', updated weekly) lists every federal and state filing with a status; only rows with status 'Election Candidate' are recorded as running. Excluded: 'Out in Convention', 'Out in Primary', 'Withdrew', 'Disqualified' and 'Write-In' rows (e.g. CD-1: Nate Blouin, Michael Farrell, Liban Mohamed out in primary; Derek Kitchen, Kathleen Riebe, Adam Clayton withdrew; one write-in). Names are recorded in title case with the ballot form kept in ballotName. Each name links to a scanned declaration of candidacy that prints mailing address and phone; none were copied, and no standsFor could be taken from them (forms only). vote.utah.gov robots.txt allows all paths, crawl-delay 10 (honoured).
  • Salt Lake County Clerk (saltlakecounty.gov/clerk/elections/candidate-filing/) says statewide and federal candidates file with the Lt. Governor and county offices with the County Clerk; its page lists qualifications and links a 'County Candidates & Office Holders' list. County races are outside this record's scope and were not captured. saltlakecounty.gov has no robots.txt (404); its Disclaimer is an 'as is' warranty disclaimer with no reuse restriction.
  • Congressional map: Utah's 2026 elections use a new court-ordered map. Computed locally from Census TIGER/Line 2026 (tl_2026_49_cd120, 120th Congress) clipped to the Salt Lake City place polygon: new District 1 covers 288.2 km2 (100%); District 2 only touches the boundary. The sitting 119th Congress map (tl_2025_49_cd119): UT-2 191.3 km2 (66%), UT-1 96.9 km2 (34%); City Hall (coordinates 40.7608,-111.8863) is in UT-1. Both sitting members (Moore, Maloy) are running in 2026 for districts outside the city (new UT-2 and UT-3), so new District 1 is an open seat.
  • State legislative districts (TIGER 2026 sldu/sldl, unchanged maps): Senate 10 141.4 km2, 8 73.4, 9 57.5, 14 9.0, 13 6.9; House 21 95.9, 22 80.5, 25 43.2, 23 25.7, 26 21.1, 24 16.2, 32 4.3, 33 1.3. Census Geocoder places City Hall in State Senate District 9 and State House District 22. Legislators from the Legislature's own data file (le.utah.gov/data/legislators.json); its robots.txt disallows /templates/, /ASP/, /asp/, /includes/, /JSP/, /RSS/ and some /lfa/ paths only - none used. The file prints home addresses and personal phones; only @le.utah.gov emails kept.
  • Federal: senate.gov and the senators' own *.senate.gov sites answered Akamai 403 'Access Denied' even to robots.txt; congress.gov's robots.txt names anthropic-ai among disallowed agents, so it was not used. The two Senators therefore rest on the Lt. Governor's official 2022 and 2024 state canvasses (election results, not a current roster). The Representatives are from the House Clerk's MemberData.xml (published October 1, 2026). No federal photos linked.
  • Unopposed: none - every recorded 2026 contest (CD-1, SD-9, HD-22) has at least two 'Election Candidate' rows. No standsFor recorded: no candidate statement in the person's own words was found on an official list.
