Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor from cityofmadison.com/mayor/about; all 20 alders from the Common Council 'Council Members' list (cityofmadison.com/council/council-members) and each alder's own page (/council/districtN), which gives the alder service dates and the official districtN@cityofmadison.com address; retrieved 2026-10-22. Alder phone numbers on those pages were not copied. Municipal Judge Daniel P. Koval from the Municipal Court page (Wisconsin municipal judges are elected; the page gives no term). Madison municipal offices are non-partisan.
  • Alder terms as printed are staggered: every odd-numbered district ends April 20, 2027 and every even-numbered district April 18, 2028, while the Run for Council page still says 'Alders serve for 2 years'. District 1 (Nzegwu) began 2026-09-08 and District 19 (Guequierre) 2024-01-23 — mid-term starts. Recorded as printed.
  • Next City of Madison election: the spring election of April 6, 2027 (spring primary February 16, 2027 if needed) — 'City of Madison Mayor and Alder positions for odd numbered districts will be on the ballot' (City Clerk, Running for Local Office; nomination papers due January 5, 2027). The City Clerk's schedule also shows the 2026 spring election held April 7, 2026. No City of Madison offices are on the 2026-11-03 ballot.
  • City hall (City-County Building) geocodes in the Census geocoder to WI-2, State Senate District 26 and Assembly District 76 (2026 state legislative layers); the coordinate link is in ridings.source. From the Dane County ward lists, Madison wards fall in 9 Assembly districts (42, 46, 48, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81) and therefore 4 Senate districts (14, 16, 26, 27); only city hall's members are recorded as people.
  • Federal: Representative Mark Pocan from house.gov/representatives (Wisconsin table). Senators Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json (senate.gov answered HTTP 403 to the Milwaukee run the same day; not retried). No federal photos linked.
  • State: Governor from evers.wi.gov; Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez from evers.wi.gov/ltgov (photo linked). SD-26 (Kelda Roys) and AD-76 (Francesca Hong) from docs.legis.wisconsin.gov 2025 member lists (robots allows /2025/legislators). Official legislative emails only; Capitol office phones not copied.
  • Candidates: the Wisconsin Elections Commission (elections.wi.gov) served robots.txt (crawling of /candidates allowed) but the candidates page returned a Cloudflare 'Just a moment...' challenge (HTTP 403) — one request, not retried, not bypassed. Candidates were read from the Dane County Clerk's official 'What's on the Ballot (Dane County) – November 3, 2026', which says it lists candidates 'certified to be on the November 5th General Election ballot' — '5th' is a misprint for November 3. Its Governor line prints 'Tom Tiffay' — recorded as Tom Tiffany. Party codes as printed (REP, DEM) in ballotParty.
  • Recorded as candidates, per the brief: WI-2 (Mark Pocan, DEM — the only candidate printed, so unopposed), Governor/Lieutenant Governor tickets (Tiffany/Varnam REP; Crowley/Godlewski DEM), and AD-76, city hall's open Assembly seat (Nina Chat REP; Dina Nina Martinez-Rutherford DEM — the sitting District 15 alder, recorded as incumbent-running on her alder row with runningFor/runningSeat). SD-26 is not on the 2026 ballot. Not recorded as people: Attorney General, Secretary of State and State Treasurer contests; SD-27 and the eight other Madison-touching Assembly races (incumbents Diane Hesselbein SD-27, Shelia Stubbs AD-78, Lisa Subeck AD-79, Mike Bare AD-80, Alex Joers AD-81 and Maureen McCarville AD-42 appear on that list); Dane County Sheriff Kalvin D. Barrett and Clerk of Circuit Court Jeff Okazaki (both unopposed).
  • Robots/terms: elections.countyofdane.com (Disallow /Account only), cityofmadison.com (allows these pages; Conditions & Use: data generally free to copy, but logos and site images may not be copied without permission — photos are linked only), docs.legis.wisconsin.gov (allows), house.gov (allows), geocoding.geo.census.gov (no robots.txt, 404), evers.wi.gov (no robots.txt, 404), unitedstates.github.io (no robots.txt; CC0). Blocked: elections.wi.gov/candidates (Cloudflare 403).
  • No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded; city hall's street address is not in any person row (coordinates used for the geocoder link). standsFor left null for everyone.
