Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor Tommy Battle and the five district council members from the City of Huntsville City Council page (https://www.huntsvilleal.gov/government/city-council/) and Elected Officials page, retrieved 2026-10-22; official @HuntsvilleAL.gov emails as printed on each member page; office phones not recorded. The City has no other city-wide elected office (the Board of Education is a school body, skipped per brief). Elections are non-partisan; party null.
  • Huntsville's 2026 municipal election is over: August 25, 2026 (Council Districts 2, 3, 4) with a District 3 runoff on September 22, 2026. David Little (D2) and Bill Kling (D4) were certified September 1; Jennie Robinson won the D3 runoff 3,776 to 3,436 over Liliana Peinder (City news release 2026-09-29). The Election Dates page says newly elected officials take office the first Monday in November (2026-11-02, oath ceremony on the council calendar); the news release says sworn in Tuesday, Nov. 3. All three remain 'elected'. Next municipal election: August 2028 (Mayor, Council Districts 1 and 5; terms on the Elected Officials page expire 2028).
  • Districts: TIGER/Line 2026 (www2.census.gov) Huntsville city polygon (GEOID 0137000) intersected with the Alabama cd120, sldu and sldl layers. Congress: AL-5 586.7 vs AL-4 3.5 area units (AL-4 = the Marshall County part; geocoder confirms a point at -86.5473, 34.5219 is Huntsville city / Marshall County / CD-4 / SD-9 / HD-27). The 2025 cd119 layer gives the identical split. Alabama's August 11, 2026 special congressional primaries covered Districts 1, 2, 6 and 7 only. Senate districts covering the city: 7, 3, 2, 9, 8, 1 (6). House districts: 20, 4, 10, 19, 53, 21, 25, 22, 5, 6, 27, 9 (12). Only City Hall's SD-7 and HD-21 are recorded as people, per the brief. tigerweb.geo.census.gov returned a WAF 'Request Rejected' page even for robots.txt, so shapefiles were used instead.
  • Sitting U.S. Representatives from https://www.house.gov/representatives (Alabama table), retrieved 2026-10-22; U.S. Senators and full names from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json. senate.gov answered Akamai 'Access Denied' (403) even on robots.txt, so it was not used. No federal photos linked.
  • State officeholders: the Alabama Legislature site (alison.legislature.state.al.us; no robots.txt, the path returns the app page) loads its member rosters by script and the served HTML holds no member names, so no roster was read and its data API was not used. SD-7 Sam Givhan and HD-21 Rex Reynolds come from the State Canvassing Board's certified Final Canvass of the November 8, 2022 general election and are marked "unofficial": true; both are again their party's 2026 nominees. Governor Kay Ivey from governor.alabama.gov (robots allows all).
  • Candidates: from the Alabama Secretary of State's 2026 election information page (https://www.sos.alabama.gov/alabama-votes/voter/election-information/2026): the State Certifications of Republican Party Candidates and of Democratic Party Candidates and of Independent Candidates for the General Election of November 3, 2026, each signed by Secretary of State Wes Allen on August 26, 2026, retrieved 2026-10-22. They are scanned images (no text layer) and were read page by page. The Republican list is the ALGOP certification of 2026-06-24 plus the 2026-08-20 special-primary certification (CD 1, 2, 6, 7); the Democratic list is the party's amended certification of 2026-08-24. The independent certification lists only SD-10, SD-21, HD-7 (2), HD-35 and HD-65, none in Huntsville. No minor party is certified on the page. Write-ins skipped; primary losers excluded.
  • Races captured: U.S. Senate — Barry Moore (R), Everett Wess (D); Governor — Tommy Tuberville (R; sitting U.S. Senator), Doug Jones (D); AL-5 — Dale W. Strong (R, inc.), Andrew Sneed (D); AL-4 — Robert B. Aderholt (R, inc.), Amanda N. Pusczek (D); SD-7 — Sam Givhan (R, inc.), Jared Sluss (D); HD-21 — Rex Reynolds (R, inc.), Forrest Satterfield (D). No captured race is unopposed. Tuberville has one row (as Senator, with Governor in runningFor).
  • Not reached: Madison County (madisoncountyal.gov) answered Akamai 'Access Denied' (403) even on robots.txt, so the Madison County sample ballot could not be used as a cross-check. huntsvilleal.gov robots.txt disallows *.pdf, so the City's sample ballots and results PDFs were not opened; municipal results come from the City's HTML news release and candidate page.
  • counts: elected = people currently in office (incl. incumbent-running); running = people on a 2026 certified list (incl. incumbent-running); unopposed = 0.
  • Robots/terms: huntsvilleal.gov (WordPress robots: disallows /wp-admin/ and *.pdf; only a privacy policy, no reuse terms; photos linked, not copied), sos.alabama.gov (Drupal robots, /alabama-votes and /sites/default/files allowed; no terms page found, only an accessibility statement), house.gov (allows), governor.alabama.gov (Yoast, Disallow empty), www2.census.gov (no rule for general agents) and geocoding.geo.census.gov (no robots.txt, 404), unitedstates.github.io (no robots.txt; CC0). Blocked: senate.gov, madisoncountyal.gov, tigerweb.geo.census.gov.
  • No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded (the City Hall street address appears only in the district note, as the reference point). standsFor null for everyone (no candidate statements read). Wikipedia, Ballotpedia and news were not used.
