Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor and six-seat City Commission (two commissioners per ward, three wards) from grandrapidsmi.gov/government/city-commission/commissioners/ and the City Officials > Elected pages; City Comptroller (the only other city-wide elected office) from grandrapidsmi.gov/government/city-officials/elected/max-frantz/ (retrieved 2026-10-22). City offices are non-partisan: party null, partyShort 'None'. Official @grcity.us addresses recorded only where the page prints one (mayor@, abelchak@, comptroller@).
  • Ward 1 has only one listed commissioner (AliciaMarie Belchak). Drew Robbins resigned (city news, 2026-04-17); the Committee on Appointments named three finalists (Danielle (Dan) Cope, Lindsey Perez-Plescher, Kurt Reppart) for interview on 2026-04-22. No city page read records an appointment, and the commissioners page still lists no second Ward 1 member, so no Ward 1 appointee is recorded. Robbins' page remains in the sitemap but is empty. The meetings portal events.grandrapidsmi.gov returned HTTP 403 even for robots.txt (not bypassed), so the April minutes could not be checked. Charter Sec. 37 (2026-02-24 briefing PDF): an appointee serves the remainder of the unexpired term.
  • City offices on the 2026-11-03 ballot: per the Clerk's 'Running for Elected Office' page, the governor cycle elects the 'Comptroller, City Commissioner (1 per ward), Library Commissioners, GRPS School Board (5)'. Seats expiring 2026-12-31 per the city pages: Comptroller (Frantz), Ward 2 (Knight), Ward 3 (Perdue) and the former Robbins Ward 1 seat. The non-partisan candidates for those seats are on Kent County's list, which could not be read, so no city candidate and no city incumbent-running status is recorded. Next Mayor election: the presidential-cycle general, 2028-11-07 (LaGrand's term expires 2028-12-31).
  • Congressional coverage: 12x12 grid of Census-geocoder coordinate lookups over the city bounding box (64 points inside 'Grand Rapids city'): MI-3 64/64. City hall (coordinates 42.96882, -85.67215, from the geocoder) is MI-3, SD-30, HD-84 on the 2026 state-legislative layers. TIGERweb rejected the request (F5 'Request Rejected', even for robots.txt), so the point grid stands in for a polygon overlay.
  • State legislature: the city spans 2 Senate districts (SD-30 36 points, SD-29 28) and 4 House districts (HD-82 23, HD-84 19, HD-81 17, HD-83 5). Only city hall's SD-30 (Mark E. Huizenga, R, senate.michigan.gov All Senators) and HD-84 (Carol Glanville, Democrat, house.mi.gov AllRepresentatives) are recorded as people. The other members, as the rosters print them: SD-29 Winnie Brinks (D); HD-81 Stephen Wooden, HD-82 Kristian Grant and HD-83 John Fitzgerald (all Democrat).
  • Federal: MI-3 Hillary Scholten from https://www.house.gov/representatives (Michigan table). senate.gov returned an Akamai 403 even for robots.txt (not bypassed), so the senators come from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json (Peters term ends 2027-01-03, Slotkin 2031-01-03). Governor Whitmer is taken from nga.org/governors/michigan/ (robots allow, Crawl-delay 10 honoured). michigan.gov was not tried because the Detroit run recorded a 403.
  • Candidates: the Muskegon County Clerk's 'November General Unofficial Candidate List' (xlsx at co.muskegon.mi.us/DocumentCenter/View/21864, linked from the county's Election Information page /502; file last modified 2026-10-16) covers the Governor/Lt. Governor, U.S. Senate and MI-3 contests that are also on Grand Rapids ballots (MI-3 includes Muskegon County). It is labelled 'Unofficial', but it comes from a county election authority. No withdrawal dates are printed for any row used. The list prints candidates' home addresses and phones; none were copied. Party abbreviations are expanded from the list's own legend. Secretary of State, Attorney General and the other statewide races are on the same list but not recorded, following the brief. The Detroit record (Wayne County official list) gives the same Governor and U.S. Senate fields.
  • NOT reached for candidates: the Kent County Clerk (www.kentcountymi.gov, CivicPlus/Cloudflare 'Sorry, you have been blocked', even for robots.txt; not retried with another UA or tool), the Michigan SOS (mvic.sos.state.mi.us is a Cloudflare challenge; not tried again), and Ottawa County (www.miottawa.org, 403 even for robots.txt). miboecfr.nictusa.com redirects to the vendor's home page, and mielections.us did not respond. As a result there are NO candidates for SD-30, HD-84 or the city offices. Carol Glanville and Mark Huizenga stay 'elected', with their 2026 ballot status unknown. A web search turned up a third-party guide naming an HD-84 Democratic candidate; it was not used because it is not an official list.
  • Incumbent on the ballot: Hillary Scholten (MI-3, Democratic Party) vs Terri DeBoer (Republican Party) and Joe Jock (Green Party). Open seats: U.S. Senate (Peters) and Governor (Whitmer). No recorded contest is unopposed.
  • Robots/terms: grandrapidsmi.gov (robots allow; privacy policy: 'All content © 2026 City of Grand Rapids… all rights reserved' and 'Any commercial reuse… without the City… express written permission is strictly prohibited', so photos are linked only and facts are taken singly); house.gov (Terms of Use: government materials 'not copyright protected'; the representatives page was opened just before the terms page); senate.michigan.gov ('Copyright 2026. All rights reserved.'); co.muskegon.mi.us (CivicPlus robots; terms: informational/personal use, keep the copyright notice); walker.city ('All content © 2006-2026 Walker, MI… All rights reserved'; used only to confirm that the Kent County list is the official one and that Walker shares HD-84/SD-30); geocoding.geo.census.gov (no robots.txt).
  • No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded. standsFor is null for everyone (no candidate statements were read). Photos are linked for the Mayor, five commissioners, the Comptroller and SD-30; no federal photos.
