Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: fortlauderdale.gov robots.txt disallows the whole /Government/City-Commission/ section, so no commission member page, photo or email was read. Names and seats are taken from allowed pages only: the site's Government menu (served on every page, read on the Website Policy page) lists 'Mayor Dean J. Trantalis, Commissioner John C. Herbst, Commissioner Steven Glassman, Commissioner Pamela Beasley-Pittman, Vice Mayor/Commissioner Ben Sorensen'; the district numbers come from the page slugs in the City's sitemap.xml (e.g. 'Commissioner-Pamela-Beasley-Pittman-District-3') and Resolution No. 26-88 (Herbst = District 1); Resolution 26-88's roll call (adopted 2026-05-05) lists the same five. Their page URLs are recorded as website only. The City Clerk's Election Information page: 'The Mayor is elected at-large and the City Commissioners are elected from each of the four districts. The four-year terms run concurrently'; no other city-wide elected office (City Clerk David R. Soloman, City Attorney Shari L. McCartney are appointed). City offices are non-partisan.
  • City election 2026: Resolution No. 26-88 calls a special municipal election on 2026-11-03 for Commission District 1 because Commissioner John C. Herbst resigned effective 2026-11-02 at 11:59 p.m.; the winner serves 2026-12-01 to 2028-12-05. The City Clerk's 'Campaign Treasurer Reports for Commission District 1 Special Election' page lists Heather T. Moraitis (Qualified), John E. Rodstrom (Qualified) and Garry Patrick Smyth (Withdrawn). Smyth still appears on the Broward SOE list of candidates (PDF created 2026-10-01, presumably printed ballot); because the City Clerk — the qualifying officer — shows him Withdrawn he is not recorded. Next regular City election: quadrennial municipal general election Tuesday 2028-11-07 (Mayor and all four districts; Charter s.7.07). Fort Lauderdale Questions 1-10 are also on the Nov 3 ballot (texts not read).
  • Congressional districts: Census 2020 relationship file tab20_cd11920_place20_st12.txt (www2.census.gov, robots allows) puts Fort Lauderdale city land in FL-23 (44.5 km2), FL-20 (31.3 km2) and FL-25 (13.7 km2) on the 119th map. For the 2026 (120th) map the Census geocoder coordinates endpoint (robots.txt 404) was sampled on an 18x16 grid over 26.075-26.215 N, 80.215-80.090 W (288 points, ~0.8-0.9 km spacing): 128 fell in 'Fort Lauderdale city' — CD-20 (68), CD-25 (60); Senate SD-37 (69), SD-32 (59); House HD-100 (53), HD-99 (46), HD-98 (15), HD-101 (9), HD-97 (5). A small sliver of another district could be missed. City hall is FL-23 (119th, ACS2025 vintage) / FL-20 (120th), SD-32, HD-100 under both vintages.
  • Federal: FL-20 is VACANT — house.gov lists 'Cherfilus-McCormick, Sheila- Vacancy' and clerk.house.gov/members/FL20/vacancy says 'Representative Cherfilus-McCormick resigned on April 21, 2026' and the office continues under the Clerk; no FL-20 officeholder is recorded (she also appears as 'Defeated' in the 2026 primary on the Division of Elections list). Sitting members Moskowitz (FL-23) and Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) from house.gov (robots allows), cross-checked with the CC0 legislators-current.json; both are on the 2026 ballot in different districts (Moskowitz FL-25, Wasserman Schultz FL-20). Senators from legislators-current.json (senate.gov 403 even for robots.txt). No federal photos linked.
  • State: flgov.com not read (robots.txt disallows ClaudeBot/anthropic-ai/Claude-Web); Governor DeSantis from MyFlorida.gov. SD-32 Rosalind Osgood from flsenate.gov/Senators/s32 ('Party: Democrat'; crawl-delay 10 honoured), confirmed by the Broward SOE elected-officials page (32ND STATE SENATE, next election 11/2026). HD-100 Chip LaMarca (Republican) from the flhouse.gov representatives list (term 11/06/24-11/03/26) and the Broward SOE elected-officials page; he is not on the 2026 list, so HD-100 is open. Only city hall's districts are recorded as people. The Broward elected-officials page prints officeholders' addresses and phones; none copied.
  • Candidates: Broward SOE 'List of Candidates and Contests, November 3, 2026 General Election' (PDF created 2026-10-01; party as printed there, e.g. 'Republican Party', 'No Party Affiliation') is the ballot source; status cross-checked against the Florida Division of Elections Candidate Tracking System, 2026 General Election (elecid 20261103-GEN), County = Broward, Status = ALL except WIT/DNQ, read 2026-10-22 (robots.txt 404). Kept: Qualified candidates for U.S. Senate (special), FL-20, FL-25, Governor (running mate as printed on the Division list), SD-32 and HD-100. Dropped: primary losers ('Defeated'), write-ins (Patricia Gonzalez FL-24, Michaelangelo Hamilton FL-25, Kathy Anderson and Erik Morris for Governor, Kyle 'KC' Gibson Agriculture), Cabinet and judicial races, FL-22/24/26 (no sampled city point in them on the 2026 map), and other House seats. HD-97 (Lisa Dunkley), HD-99 (Daryl Nevroy Campbell) are 'Unopposed' in the general — elected at qualifying and not on the ballot; HD-98 Mitch Rosenwald also 'Unopposed' in the general; HD-101 (Cassel R *Incumbent v. Delmay D) is contested. FL-20 and FL-25 'Unopposed' in the Primary column means unopposed in the primary only. No detail (CanDetail) pages were opened; they print home addresses.
  • Robots/terms: fortlauderdale.gov (robots disallows /Government/City-Commission/; Website Policy read first — no automation ban, 'encourages and permits links'), browardvotes.gov (robots disallows only admin/search/user paths; disclaimer read first — public-service 'as is', no reuse licence), dos.elections.myflorida.com (robots 404), geocoding.geo.census.gov (robots 404), www2.census.gov (robots names other bots only), house.gov (allows), clerk.house.gov (robots 404), senate.gov (403), unitedstates.github.io (robots 404), flsenate.gov (allows /Senators/, crawl-delay 10), flhouse.gov (allows the representatives list; 'All rights reserved'), myflorida.gov (robots 404), flgov.com (not contacted; known disallow). One User-Agent throughout ('ResearchUpon-politics/1.0 (civic research; +https://researchupon.com)'). standsFor null for everyone (no candidate's own statement was read). No street address is in any person row.
