Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor from detroitmi.gov/government/mayors-office, City Clerk from detroitmi.gov/government/city-clerk, 9 council members (2 at-large, Districts 1-7) from detroitmi.gov/government/city-council (retrieved 2026-10-22). Cross-checked against the Wayne County Clerk Official Summary Report for the November 4, 2025 City General Election (printed 11/18/2025): Sheffield (Mayor), Winfrey (Clerk), Waters and Young II (at-large), Tate Jr. (D1, printed 'James Tate, Jr.'), Whitfield Calloway (D2), Benson (D3), Johnson (D4), Miller (D5), Santiago-Romero (D6), McCampbell (D7) all won. Detroit offices are non-partisan ('NP'): party null, partyShort 'None'. The Board of Police Commissioners and Community Advisory Councils are elected by district, not city-wide, and are not recorded. Council email addresses are obfuscated on the city site and were not recorded.
  • Congressional districts covering the city: Census TIGERweb Detroit city polygon (place 2622000, enclaves Hamtramck and Highland Park excluded) sampled on a 120x120 grid (7,863 points inside the city) against the 120th Congress layer: MI-13 5,478 points (70%), MI-12 2,385 (30%). MI-10 and MI-11 touch the bounding box only. City hall (2 Woodward Ave) is MI-13, SD-1, HD-9 in the Census geocoder (2024 and 2026 state-legislative layers agree).
  • State legislature: the 2026 Senate layer puts 4 districts in Detroit (SD-3 42%, SD-1 29%, SD-6 27%, SD-2 1%); the 2026 House layer puts 12 districts in Detroit (HD-9, 1, 4, 7, 8, 11, 16, 5, 17, 10, 12, 3). Only city hall's SD-1 and HD-9 are recorded as people. The Senate seats on the 2026 ballot use the Agee v. Benson remedial map for Detroit-area districts; city hall is SD-1 under both the sitting and 2026 maps.
  • Sitting U.S. Representatives from https://www.house.gov/representatives (Michigan table, retrieved 2026-10-22). U.S. Senators: senate.gov returned HTTP 403 even for robots.txt (not bypassed) — taken from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json (Peters term ends 2027-01-03, Slotkin 2031-01-03). No federal photos linked.
  • State: michigan.gov (Governor's site) returns an Akamai 'Access Denied' 403 to curl and WebFetch, including robots.txt — not bypassed; Governor Whitmer taken from the National Governors Association page (robots allow, Crawl-delay 10 honoured). SD-1 from senate.michigan.gov/senators/all-senators/ (robots allow except /search); HD-9 from house.mi.gov/AllRepresentatives (robots Allow /). legislature.mi.gov returned 502 errors.
  • Candidates: Wayne County Clerk 'Official Candidate List', November 3, 2026 General Election (35 pages, printed 9/10/2026 5:34 PM), linked from the clerk's November-3rd-2026-General-Election page. waynecountymi.gov 403s to curl (Akamai) but its robots.txt (read via WebFetch) does not disallow the Elections pages; the PDF was read via WebFetch and pdftotext. Names and party as printed (Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, U.S. Taxpayers, Green Party, Natural Law, Working Class). The list prints each candidate's address — never copied. No withdrawal dates were printed for any row recorded here. Joint Governor/Lt. Governor tickets split into one row each.
  • Michigan Secretary of State candidate listing (mvic.sos.state.mi.us) is behind a Cloudflare managed challenge — not bypassed; michigan.gov/sos 403. The Wayne County Clerk list is the county election authority's official list and covers every federal and state contest recorded here.
  • Open seats on the 2026 ballot: U.S. Senate (Peters), MI-13 (Thanedar not on the general-election list; Democratic nominee Donavan McKinney), Governor (Whitmer term-limited), SD-1 (Geiss), HD-9 (Tate). Only Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) is an incumbent on the ballot. No contest recorded here is unopposed.
  • Next City of Detroit municipal election (Mayor, City Clerk, all 9 council seats, Police Commissioners; non-partisan): general election November 6, 2029, with an August 2029 primary. The City Clerk page states the Clerk 'is elected at the city election held every fourth year on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November'; the last was November 4, 2025. No City of Detroit offices are on the 2026-11-03 Wayne County list.
  • Robots/terms: detroitmi.gov (robots allow these pages; '©2026 City of Detroit. All rights reserved.'), house.gov (allows), senate.michigan.gov ('Copyright 2026. All rights reserved.'), house.mi.gov ('© Copyright 2026, Michigan House of Representatives'), geocoding/tigerweb.geo.census.gov (no robots.txt), nga.org (Crawl-delay 10), waynecountymi.gov (Elections pages allowed; no reuse terms on the list), senate.gov 403, michigan.gov 403, mvic.sos.state.mi.us Cloudflare, legislature.mi.gov 502.
  • No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded (only official @senate.michigan.gov / @house.mi.gov addresses). standsFor left null for everyone (no candidate statements read). Photos linked only (Mayor, City Clerk, council, SD-1).
