Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor, City Attorney and City Auditor from their columbus.gov 'About' pages; nine Councilmembers (Districts 1-9) from https://www.columbus.gov/Government/City-Council/Directory (the Councilmembers link resolves there), retrieved 2026-10-15; photos linked from each member's columbus.gov page. columbuscitycouncil.org 301-redirects to columbus.gov. Columbus municipal ballots are non-partisan: party null, partyShort 'None'. columbus.gov returned 403 (Akamai) to a custom browser-like user agent but served robots.txt and pages to plain curl; robots.txt allows the government pages used.
  • Council system (verified on columbus.gov 'Council Residential Districts'): hybrid at-large since the 2018 charter change — nine seats, each member must live in their residential district but the whole city votes on every seat; first used in 2023. Staggering: at the first 2024 meeting lots split districts into Lot A (five districts, four-year terms to 2028) and Lot B (four, two-year terms to 2026, re-elected November 2025). The Franklin County BOE roster (revised 8/17/2026) shows Districts 2, 5, 6, 8, 9 and the Mayor next on the ballot in 2027, and Districts 1, 3, 4, 7, City Attorney and City Auditor in 2029.
  • Next Columbus municipal election: Tuesday, November 2, 2027 (general; Mayor and Council Districts 2, 5, 6, 8, 9), with the primary in May 2027. No City of Columbus office is on the 2026-11-03 ballot. On that ballot Columbus voters do decide two competing charter amendments (Franklin County BOE Notices of Election): one by petition and one by council ordinance (passed 2026-08-24), both limiting council voting to electors living in each district; the council version also adds two at-large seats.
  • City Auditor: columbus.gov names Jacquelin R. Lewis and refers to 'her appointment as City Auditor' (no date). The Franklin County BOE roster (revised 8/17/2026) still prints Megan N. Kilgore — the city page is newer and is used; re-check after the next roster revision.
  • Congressional districts covering the city: Census TIGERweb polygon for Columbus city (place 3918000) sampled on a 160x160 grid (10,480 points inside the city, ~0.23 km spacing) against the 120th Congress districts (the October 2025 Ohio map used on the 2026 ballot) and the 119th (current members). 120th: OH-3 5,486, OH-15 4,762, OH-12 232. 119th: OH-3 5,486, OH-15 4,762, OH-4 154 (the Delaware County part), OH-12 78 (Fairfield County part). The union of four districts is listed. Slivers under the grid spacing could be missed. City hall (90 W Broad St) geocodes to OH-15, Ohio Senate 15, Ohio House 1 (2026 layers). By the same grid the city is covered by 6 Ohio Senate districts (3, 15, 16, 19, 20, 25) and 14 Ohio House districts (1-12, 60, 73); only city hall's are recorded as people.
  • Sitting U.S. Representatives from https://www.house.gov/representatives (Ohio table, retrieved 2026-10-15); house.gov lists no photos, so none linked. U.S. Senators (Bernie Moreno, Jon Husted): senate.gov is known to return HTTP 403 (Akamai) to this client — taken from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json (Husted: appointed 2025-01-21 to JD Vance's seat, end-type special-election 2026-11-03) and matched against the Franklin County BOE roster.
  • State officeholders (Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jim Tressel, SD-15 Hearcel F. Craig, HD-1 Dontavius Jarrells) from the Franklin County Board of Elections 'Roster of Elected Officials in Franklin County' (revision date 8/17/2026), an official county elections roster. ohiosenate.gov, ohiohouse.gov and legislature.ohio.gov refused connections (timeouts) and governor.ohio.gov returned 404 for every path from this client, so no legislature or governor pages, photos or websites were read. Re-verify from the legislature when reachable.
  • Candidates: Franklin County Board of Elections '2026 General Election Candidates' PDF (2026-General-Candidate-List-5, linked from https://vote.franklincountyohio.gov/election-info/2026, retrieved 2026-10-15). Names and parties as printed; joint Governor/Lt Governor tickets split into one row each. Excluded: write-ins (marked 'Yes' in the list's Write-In column: 4 Governor tickets, 3 U.S. Senate, Samuel Ronan OH-15) and offices outside this record's scope (other statewide offices, judges, county offices, other legislative districts). The list prints campaign emails and phone numbers: not copied (several are personal-domain addresses).
  • Ohio Secretary of State (ohiosos.gov) robots.txt and every page returned a Cloudflare challenge (HTTP 403, cf-mitigated: challenge) — not bypassed; the SOS certified statewide list was therefore not read and the Franklin County BOE list stands in for it (it covers every statewide contest and OH-3, OH-15, SD-15, HD-1). OH-12 candidates (the Delaware/Fairfield County parts of Columbus) are NOT captured: the Delaware and Fairfield County boards (boe.ohio.gov 403; delawarecountyohio.gov unreachable) could not be read, and search-engine copies did not show the certified general field. Troy Balderson and Jim Jordan are therefore recorded as 'elected' only.
  • Open seats on the 2026 ballot (sitting member not on the general list): Governor (DeWine, term-limited), Lieutenant Governor (Tressel), Ohio Senate 15 (Craig). Husted (U.S. Senate special), Beatty (OH-3), Carey (OH-15) and Jarrells (HD-1) are incumbent-running. Unopposed: none among the seats captured.
  • Robots/terms: columbus.gov (robots allows the pages used; '© 2026 City of Columbus, Ohio', disclaimer, no reuse grant), vote.franklincountyohio.gov (robots.txt 404 — no rules; no reuse terms stated), house.gov (allows), unitedstates.github.io (CC0), geocoding/tigerweb.geo.census.gov (public Census services), senate.gov (403), ohiosos.gov (Cloudflare challenge), Ohio legislature hosts (unreachable), governor.ohio.gov (404). No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded; the one email kept per officeholder is an official columbus.gov address (radorans@columbus.gov from the Council Directory; cityauditor@columbus.gov). standsFor null for everyone (no candidate statements read). No rows are 'unofficial'.
