Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Candidates: Virginia Department of Elections HTML candidate lists 'November 3, 2026 - Federal Offices' and 'Local Offices', retrieved 2026-11-01 (robots.txt allows HTML; disallows *.csv/*.xls/*.xlsx/*.json, so download files were not used). Parties and Incumbent flags as printed. The lists print campaign street addresses, phones and emails (some personal webmail); none of the addresses or phones were copied, and candidate emails are left null; campaign websites kept. Write-ins skipped.
  • Municipal: City Council page (charlottesville.gov/677/City-Council) and each member's page, read 2026-11-01. 'Charlottesville voters elect five At-large members ... four-year terms, and they vote to select one Councilor to serve as Mayor and one as Vice Mayor for two years. Municipal elections are held in November in odd-numbered years.' Council is elected on party primaries but the City prints no party, so party is null. Mayor Juandiego Wade and Vice Mayor Natalie Oschrin serve 2026-2027. Official @charlottesville.gov emails kept; phones and the Clerk's contact not copied. Photos linked from the City ImageRepository, never copied. standsFor quotes each member's 'Political Goals/Priority Issues' section on their City page (the member's own stated priorities as the City publishes them).
  • Next City of Charlottesville municipal election: November 2, 2027 (Snook, Payne and Oschrin terms end December 31, 2027); Wade and Fleisher terms run to December 31, 2029. Not recorded: School Board, Commonwealth's Attorney, Sheriff, Treasurer, Commissioner of the Revenue, Clerk of Circuit Court (city-wide constitutional officers, none on the 2026 ballot).
  • Robots: www.charlottesville.gov has a group naming ClaudeBot (with other AI crawlers) that disallows only admin/search/calendar/FAQ/RSS-type paths; it was applied, so the 'When are elections held?' FAQ pages (/Faq.aspx) were not opened. The '*' group's Crawl-delay: 10 was honoured (10 s between City requests). elections.virginia.gov, house.gov, house.vga.virginia.gov allow the pages used; apps.senate.virginia.gov and geocoding.geo.census.gov have no robots.txt (404).
  • Districts: Census geocoder (Current_Current: 120th Congress, 2026 state legislative lines) City Hall 605 E Main St (-78.47766, 38.02967) = CD-5, SD-11, HD-54; 7x7 grid over 38.005-38.060 N, 78.445-78.525 W, 23 points inside 'Charlottesville city': all CD-5, SD-11, HD-54. The ELECT federal list confirms a 5th District contest; the Callsen profile describes HD-54 as 'County of Albemarle (part); City of Charlottesville'.
  • Sitting members: McGuire from house.gov/representatives; Kaine from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json (senate.gov not used); Deeds from apps.senate.virginia.gov member page; Callsen from house.vga.virginia.gov profile (party 'D'); Governor Spanberger carried from us-richmond. Phones and office addresses not copied. Ballotpedia, Wikipedia and news were not used.
