Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Candidates from the Texas Secretary of State Election Results listing for the 2026 November General Election (electionresults.sos.state.tx.us/results.html, page header 'Updated 10/14/2026 07:34 AM'; robots.txt 404 — no rules; no terms printed on the page). Races read: U.S. Senator — Ken Paxton (R), James Talarico (D), Ted Brown (L); U.S. Representative District 34 — Eric Flores (R), Vicente Gonzalez (D, marked (I)), Chris Royal (L), Eddie Espinoza (Green); Governor — Greg Abbott (R, (I)), Gina Hinojosa (D), Pat Dixon (L); State Representative District 38 — Laura E. Cisneros (R), Erin Elizabeth Gamez (D, (I)). Names printed in capitals on the listing; given here in normal case. Write-ins skipped. Not used: Texas SOS candidate site (goelect) and house.texas.gov — robots disallow Claude agents.
  • Cameron County Elections & Voter Registration (www.cameroncountytx.gov/elections/): robots.txt allows all paths, but the elections page answered HTTP 307 with a Sucuri Cloudproxy JavaScript challenge ('Javascript is required…') on 2026-10-22. Not bypassed and not retried; so the county's sample ballots could not be read and the SOS listing is the only candidate source. The county page sitemap lists no elections or terms page.
  • City of Brownsville website (www.brownsvilletx.gov, CivicPlus): robots.txt itself returned a Cloudflare 'Sorry, you have been blocked' page for this User-Agent on 2026-10-22. Not retried and not reached by any other path (the tx-brownsville.civicplus.com mirror was not used). No Legistar client exists for Brownsville (webapi.legistar.com 'not set up' for brownsville, brownsvilletx, cob, cityofbrownsville).
  • Mayor John F. Cowen, Jr. comes from the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (the city-owned utility) Board of Directors page, which lists him as 'Ex-officio Member, Elected' and says he joined the board on May 16, 2023 (bpub.com robots allows the path; Terms of Use read first — they forbid republication of site material without written consent; only the fact of office is recorded here). The six City Commissioners (At-Large A, At-Large B, Districts 1–4) could not be confirmed from a reachable official list and are NOT included. A web-search index of the city's Commission page (www.brownsvilletx.gov/807/City-Commission, not opened) shows: At-Large 'A' Tino Villarreal, Jr. (term to May 2027), At-Large 'B' Nurith Galonsky (to May 2029), District 1 Bryan L. Martinez (to May 2027), District 2 Linda C. Macias (to May 2027), District 3 Gustavo De León (to May 2029), District 4 Pedro Cardenas (to May 2029), Mayor term to May 2027 — UNVERIFIED, for the coordinator to confirm from the city page when it is reachable.
  • Municipal election: Brownsville elects its Mayor and Commissioners in May (staggered, odd years per the indexed term dates); no city officer race is on the November 3, 2026 ballot as far as could be established, but this could not be checked against the city or county pages. Next regular municipal election (from the indexed term dates, unverified): May 2027 for Mayor, At-Large A, Districts 1 and 2. branch.vote lists a Brownsville 'November 2026' ballot but its Terms of Use forbid scrapers/robots, so it was not read.
  • U.S. Senators from the Texas Legislative Council Who Represents Me? service (rws.capitol.texas.gov/api/GetSenators; robots.txt 404) — party not printed there; Republican as in the merged Texas records. U.S. Representative from house.gov/representatives (robots allows; 'Gonzalez, Vicente | Texas 34th | D'). Governor Greg Abbott (R, term 2026) from the SOS Statewide Elected Officials page (www.sos.state.tx.us robots.txt empty). State Senator Adam Hinojosa (SD-27) and State Representative Erin Gámez (HD-38) from Texas Legislature Online member pages (capitol.texas.gov/Members allowed by robots); Hinojosa's party (Republican) from his Texas Senate member page (www.senate.texas.gov/member.php?d=27, robots allows), Gámez's (Democratic) from the SOS listing. No photos linked (senate.texas.gov /_assets is disallowed; none taken from other hosts).
  • Districts: Census geocoder (robots 404) — city hall (by coordinates 25.9024, -97.4995) falls in Brownsville city (place 4810768), Cameron County, CD-34 (120th/2025 map), State Senate District 27, State House District 38. Grid sampling at 0.02° over the city (67 points inside place 4810768): CD-34 100%, SD-27 100%; HD-38 49%, HD-37 36%, HD-35 15%. Only city hall's state districts are listed, per the brief. HD-37 on the ballot: Janie Lopez (R; no (I) mark on the SOS listing although she sits for HD-37 in the 89th Legislature) vs Oziel 'Ozzie' Ochoa, Jr (D); HD-35: Oscar Rosa (R) vs Oscar Longoria (D, I).
  • Commission (added 2026-10-31): www.brownsvilletx.gov still answers robots.txt with a Cloudflare 'Attention Required' 403 (not bypassed). The six City Commissioners listed as UNVERIFIED in the note above are now added as rows (unofficial:true) from the search-index text of the City's own pages: /807/City-Commission (seat and term dates) and /2566/Mayor (Mayor John F. Cowen, Jr.: Commissioner At-Large 'A' from 2019, Mayor from 2023, term expires May 2027 — confirms the BPUB-sourced mayor row). The page describes a seven-member body (Mayor + six Commissioners). No later change to the roster was found in 2026 search results (Brownsville elections are in May of odd years). Re-verify on the city site when reachable.
