Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor from https://www.boston.gov/departments/mayors-office/michelle-wu and 13 City Councilors (4 at-large + Districts 1-9) from https://www.boston.gov/departments/city-council, retrieved 2026-10-15; official boston.gov emails and headshot URLs from each councilor's boston.gov page. Boston municipal elections are non-partisan: party null, partyShort 'None'. Boston has no other city-wide elected office (the School Committee is appointed).
  • Next Boston municipal election: Tuesday, November 2, 2027 (all 13 City Council seats; two-year terms — 'Councilors are elected every two years', boston.gov), preliminary in September 2027. The Mayor's four-year term runs to January 2030 (re-elected 2025-11-04); next mayoral election November 2029. No City of Boston office is on the 2026-11-03 ballot.
  • Congressional districts covering the city: Census TIGERweb polygon for Boston city (place 2507000) sampled on a 160x160 grid (8,499 points inside the city polygon, which includes harbor water and the Harbor Islands; ~0.23 x 0.12 km spacing) against the 120th Congress districts (TIGERweb tigerWMS_Current layer 54, simplified at 0.0005 deg): MA-8 5,066, MA-7 3,424, plus 9 border points in MA-4/5/6 — each of those 9 was re-checked with the Census geocoder (unsimplified geometry) and all fell in MA-7 or MA-8, so they were simplification artifacts. Boston is covered by MA-7 (Pressley) and MA-8 (Lynch) only. Massachusetts did not redraw for 2026, so the 119th and 120th maps are the same. City hall (1 City Hall Square, 42.36035,-71.05799; the Census address matcher only returned '1 City Hall Ave', so the building's coordinates were used) is in MA-8, Senate Third Suffolk, House 3rd Suffolk (2026 layers). By the same grid the city touches about 6 Massachusetts Senate districts (First, Second and Third Suffolk; Norfolk and Suffolk; Suffolk and Middlesex; Middlesex and Suffolk) and about 16 House districts (1st-10th, 12th-15th, 17th and 18th Suffolk), with a few one- or two-point border hits excluded as simplification artifacts. Only city hall's members are recorded as people.
  • Sitting U.S. Representatives from https://www.house.gov/representatives (Massachusetts table, retrieved 2026-10-15; no photos listed, so none linked). U.S. Senators (Edward J. Markey, Elizabeth Warren) from the CC0 @unitedstates legislators-current.json (senate.gov not used; it returns HTTP 403 to this client). Markey's class-2 term ends 2027-01-03, so his seat is on the 2026 ballot; Warren's runs to 2031-01-03.
  • State legislators (Lydia Edwards, Third Suffolk; Aaron Michlewitz, 3rd Suffolk) from the Massachusetts Legislature member lists (malegislature.gov/Legislators/Members/Senate and /House), retrieved 2026-10-15; the official @masenate.gov/@mahouse.gov emails are kept. malegislature.gov's Terms say no photograph may be downloaded, reproduced or otherwise used without the General Court's written consent, so legislator photos are NOT linked. Governor Maura Healey and Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll: mass.gov returned HTTP 403 (Akamai) to robots.txt and every page, so they are taken from the Secretary of the Commonwealth's certified 2022 Governor general-election result on PD43+ (electionstats.state.ma.us), and marked unofficial.
  • Candidates: the official source, the Secretary of the Commonwealth's '2026 State Election Candidates' page (sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/research-and-statistics/), returned an Imperva/Incapsula JavaScript challenge (robots.txt and sitemap.xml loaded, but every elections page was challenged, including after a pause) — not bypassed. The Boston Election Department (boston.gov/departments/elections) has no 2026 candidate list or sample ballot online yet; its results page stops at 2025. Instead, 2026 nominees come from the Secretary's PD43+ election statistics site (electionstats.state.ma.us, robots allows all): certified results of the September 1, 2026 State Primary, one row per party nominee. Every row whose running status rests on these results is marked 'unofficial': true. Unenrolled/independent candidates who filed nomination papers for the general election (and any minor-party nominees not chosen in a primary) are NOT captured. Re-check against the Secretary's list when it can be reached. Primary losers and write-ins are excluded.
  • 2026 ballot as captured: U.S. Senate — Markey (D, incumbent) vs John Deaton (R). MA-7 — Pressley (D, incumbent), no Republican nominee. MA-8 — Lynch (D, incumbent) vs Robert Gerald Burke (R). Governor — Healey (D, incumbent) vs Michael Roger Minogue (R); Lt. Governor — Driscoll (D, incumbent) vs Shawn Oliver (R). Senate Third Suffolk — Edwards (D, incumbent), no Republican nominee. House 3rd Suffolk — Michlewitz (D, incumbent), no Republican nominee. counts.unopposed = 3 (Pressley, Edwards, Michlewitz) means no other party's nominee in the primary results; unenrolled challengers could not be checked. No open seats among the offices captured.
  • Robots/terms: boston.gov (robots allows the pages used; Terms of Use and Privacy Policy give no copyright licence or reuse grant), house.gov (allows), unitedstates.github.io (no robots.txt — 404; CC0 data), geocoding.geo.census.gov (robots.txt 404 — no rules; public Census service), tigerweb.geo.census.gov (robots.txt request rejected by the host's firewall with 'Request Rejected', so no rules could be read; the public ArcGIS REST service itself answered and was used as in earlier records), malegislature.gov (robots allows all; photos restricted as above), electionstats.state.ma.us (robots allows all; its Terms and Conditions link goes to sec.state.ma.us, which was blocked), sec.state.ma.us (Incapsula challenge on all elections pages), mass.gov (HTTP 403). No home addresses, phones or personal emails recorded: emails kept are official boston.gov, masenate.gov and mahouse.gov addresses. Boston councilor and mayor headshots are linked from boston.gov, not copied. standsFor null for everyone (no candidate statements read).
