Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor and 10 Council Members from https://www.austintexas.gov/department/city-council, retrieved 2026-10-15 (robots.txt allows these pages). Austin is a council-manager city; no other city-wide elected office (City Manager, City Clerk, City Auditor are appointed). Austin municipal offices are non-partisan.
  • City of Austin general election 2026-11-03: council Districts 1, 3, 5, 8 and 9 are on the ballot (the Mayor and Districts 2, 4, 6, 7, 10 were elected in 2024 and run next in November 2028). Candidates from the City Clerk's 'Order of Place on the Ballot for General Election to be held on November 3, 2026' (signed by City Clerk Erika Brady; drawing held 2026-08-26 in City Hall), https://services.austintexas.gov/edims/document.cfm?id=480041 (a scanned PDF, read from its image), cross-checked against the Clerk's 'Ballot Applications November 2026' table (https://www.austintexas.gov/clerk/elections/Ballot-Applications-November-2026, updated 2026-08-17): the same 22 names. ballotPosition is the drawn order. Incumbents running: José Velásquez (D3), Ryan Alter (D5), Zohaib 'Zo' Qadri (D9). Open seats: D1 (Natasha Harper-Madison not on the ballot) and D8 (Paige Ellis not on the ballot). A runoff (December 2026) follows where no candidate wins a majority. The 2026 City of Austin bond election is also on the ballot (not a candidate race). Candidate websites and standsFor not captured; the Clerk's per-candidate links are campaign-finance filings, not opened.
  • Congressional districts covering the city: Census TIGERweb polygon for Austin city (place 4805000) sampled on a 160x160 grid (11,367 points inside the city) against the 119th Congress districts (current members) and the 120th Congress districts (the 2025 Texas map used for the 2026 election). 119th: TX-37 (6,175 points), 35 (3,534), 10 (1,028), 21 (626), 17 (4). 120th: TX-37 (6,767), 10 (2,538), 27 (1,006), 11 (572), 17 (484). All seven sitting members of the union are listed; candidates are listed only for the five 120th-map districts (TX-21 and TX-35 no longer reach Austin, so their 2026 races are not on Austin ballots). Slivers smaller than the grid spacing (~0.3 km) could be missed. City hall is TX-10 on the 120th layer of the Census geocoder (TX-37 on the 119th by the grid).
  • Sitting U.S. Representatives from https://www.house.gov/representatives (Texas table), retrieved 2026-10-15. house.gov lists no photos; congress.gov/bioguide not used (disallowed to this crawler per the Houston run), so no federal photos are linked.
  • U.S. Senators (John Cornyn, Ted Cruz, both Republican): senate.gov returns HTTP 403 (Akamai); not fetched. Carried from the merged us-houston record (read from the search-index listing of https://www.senate.gov/states/TX/senators.htm). Re-verify when senate.gov is reachable. Cornyn is NOT on the November ballot (Republican nominee for his seat: Ken Paxton, per the SOS list).
  • State: Governor from the Texas SOS Statewide Elected Officials page (Greg Abbott, R, term expires 2026), retrieved 2026-10-15. City hall's state districts (SD-14, HD-49, from the Census geocoder 2026 state legislative layers) and their members from senate.texas.gov/member.php?d=14 (Sarah Eckhardt, party printed 'Democrat') and house.texas.gov/members/49 (Gina Hinojosa; page does not print party, Democratic per the SOS list). Both sit but are running for other offices: Eckhardt is on the SOS list for Comptroller of Public Accounts (SD-14 not up in 2026), Hinojosa for Governor (HD-49 is an open seat: Montserrat Garibay, D; Arshia Papari, Green). Districts covering the city by the same grid: 5 Texas Senate (SD-5, 14, 21, 24, 25) and 10 Texas House districts (19, 20, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 136); only city hall's are listed per the brief.
  • Candidates: Texas SOS Candidate Information (Civix 'goelect' app; public JSON endpoint /api-ivis-cbp/api/cbp/findQualifiedCandidates, election 53815 '2026 NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION', office types FD and SR), retrieved 2026-10-15. Kept: filing status CG with declaration accepted, party not W; dropped write-ins (U.S. Senate, Governor, TX-27 Wayne Raasch) and rejected independent applications (Jade Simmons, U.S. Senate; Sarah Bowman Cunningham and Demetra Jefferson Wysinger, Governor). Names title-cased from the capitalised list, printed form in ballotName/runningBallotName. Mailing addresses, emails and occupations on the list were dropped on download, not copied. No candidate websites or standsFor captured. Greg Casar sits for TX-35 and is on the ballot for TX-37 (incumbent-running, runningSeat TX-37).
  • Open seats on the 2026 ballot for Austin (incumbent not on the SOS general list for that seat): U.S. Senate (Cornyn), TX-10 (McCaul), TX-37 (Doggett; Casar running there), HD-49 (Hinojosa), council D1 (Harper-Madison) and D8 (Ellis). Chip Roy (TX-21) is not on the general ballot. Unopposed: none among the seats captured.
  • Next City of Austin general election after 2026-11-03: November 2028 (Mayor and Districts 2, 4, 6, 7, 10). Runoffs, where needed, in December 2026.
  • Robots/terms: austintexas.gov and services.austintexas.gov (robots allows these pages; 'Legal Notice' linked, no reuse licence stated on the pages; council photos are hosted on austin.widen.net and linked, not copied), house.gov (allows), sos.texas.gov (robots.txt empty), goelect.txelections.civixapps.com (robots.txt 404; no terms shown), senate.texas.gov (allows member pages; /_assets disallowed but member photos are under /members/), house.texas.gov (allows all), geocoding.geo.census.gov (no robots.txt) and tigerweb.geo.census.gov (robots.txt request rejected by its firewall page; public Census map service used as in the Dallas/Houston runs).
