Notes on this record

How the lists were read, and what could not be.

  • Municipal: Mayor from appletonwi.gov/government/mayor/index.php; fifteen Alderpersons from the Common Council page (/government/common_council.php), retrieved 2026-11-01. The page states: alderpersons "represent the 15 districts of the City and are elected to serve two-year terms"; "Non-partisan elections are held each April, with odd-numbered districts holding elections in odd-numbered years ... and even-numbered districts in even-numbered years"; the Mayor chairs the Council and votes only on a tie. No official emails printed; per-alder phone numbers printed on the page NOT copied. Campaign/blog sites and Facebook pages shown only where the city page links them (Facebook links not recorded). The City Attorney (Chris Behrens) is listed under 'Officials & Offices' but is not recorded as elected.
  • Municipal election: the City Clerk's Elections page lists 2026 dates Spring Election April 7, Partisan Primary August 11, General Election November 3 — the November ballot carries no city offices. Next city election: the spring election of April 6, 2027 (odd-numbered aldermanic districts per the council page); the Mayor's term end was not read on an official page.
  • Districts: city hall (100 N Appleton St; 44.2619,-88.4072) geocodes to CD-8, Senate District 18, Assembly District 52 (Census geocoder, 2026 state legislative layers). Spot checks: Calumet County part of the city (-88.37,44.235) CD-8/SD-1/AD-3; north side (-88.39,44.30) CD-8/SD-19/AD-56. So at least three Senate and three Assembly districts cover the city; only city hall's members are recorded. The Winnebago County slice of Appleton was not sampled.
  • Federal: Tony Wied from house.gov/representatives (read 2026-11-01). Senators, Governor and Lt Governor rows carried over from the us-green-bay record (itself from us-madison). State legislators from the docs.legis.wisconsin.gov 2025 member lists (robots allows /2025/legislators); official @legis.wisconsin.gov emails only; Capitol phones not copied.
  • Candidates: the Outagamie County Clerk publishes the Type B notice / sample ballots, but www.outagamie.gov answered Akamai 'Access Denied' (403) to robots.txt, so that host was not used further (its outagamie.prod.govaccess.org / outagamie.org mirrors were deliberately NOT used). WEC's elections.wi.gov served a Cloudflare 'Just a moment...' challenge; myvote.wi.gov's ballot lookup is an address form and was not used. Recorded instead: WI-8 Tony Wied (Republican) v Rick Crosson (Democratic) from the Brown County official sample ballot (district-wide contest; via us-green-bay), and the Governor/Lt Governor tickets Tiffany/Varnam (Republican) and Crowley/Godlewski (Democratic) from the Portage County official ballot read 2026-11-01. NOT captured: the AD-52 contest (and other Assembly contests in the city) — needs the Outagamie County sample ballot.
  • Robots/terms: www.appletonwi.gov (robots.txt redirects to cms2.revize.com/revize/appletonwi/robots.txt, which is 404 — no rules); www.house.gov, docs.legis.wisconsin.gov (paths allowed); geocoding.geo.census.gov (robots 404); www.co.portage.wi.gov (CivicPlus robots; ClaudeBot group has path rules only, '*' Crawl-delay 10 kept). No photos linked; standsFor null for everyone.
